So here I sit in my backyard, enjoying the sun and a good book. Life is good. There are a million things I could be doing. Like working on the AVID District-wide newsletter, or calling Comcast to figure out why my wireless internet isn't working, or planning for summer school that starts on Tuesday, or writing my post for my new grad course, or taking a walk. Let's see ... it's only 3:00 and I have already read all the pages I needed for my course, so maybe before the days out, I can cross a few of those things off my list. Be back later to tell you how that turned out....
Today I read about teacher leadership. I have to write on our Discussion Board about whether I believe a principal should be a manager or a leader. I am reminded today that I work for an amazing leader and give my thanks up to God for placing her in my life. I kept wondering as I read the assigned pages whether Barbara had read the book herself. It seemed to speak to me about her style. I was also able to think about how I am going to handle the AVID Site Team differently this year. I noticed that they finally put AVID by itself on the kiosk by the front office. We have become our own entity!!! :) Teachers are leaders - I am anxious to plan where I will lead my AVID babies this coming school year. But for now I'm going to get back to Pigman - one of the required summer reading books. The sun is calling........

I just typed a long 2 paragraph comment and when I hit enter to send it, I lost the internet connection!!!!! Let's see, what did I say? (1)HUG CODY LEE FOR ME!! (2)What book are you reading that speaks about leadership? I always thought that managers WERE leaders. I'm going to look up both words to see what the dictionary says. (3) I know what you mean about missing Cody. No matter how the day goes, smoothly or with a challenge, I always miss them! Especially when I'm flying; I can't stand it because I'm always wishing that they were with me to see what I'm seeing!

ReplyDeleteLet's recap here, shall we?
ReplyDeleteLawn chair...$35.
Digital camera...$125.
Child away for a day...almost priceless.
Having digital camera on self-timer because child is away for day, nearly falling out of lawn chair, and having moment along with shocked/alarmed/"what the **** is going on" look captured for posterity...
ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS!!!
Seriously, I'd be glad to help out with the wireless problem as much as possible from here...just drop me an e-mail with details if you're interested.
I had a great leadership class over this past Spring at Hopkins where the professor talked about the leader/manager thing...pretty sure I recognize that book too...:)
