The beautiful thing about good news is that it travels fast. Yesterday when I was watching my beautiful Destiny work at Home Depot, not only was I affirmed that my AVID students are on their way to being productive, polite human beings, but I was also affirmed that good things happen to good people. The text was circulating at that moment ... Brie McQueen, yet another beautiful AVID scholar, had been accepted to Unity College in Maine.
So today there was a McQueen family reunion in my fourth period class. Brie, her mom, her little sister, and of course younger brother Kameron (who was a student in this fourth period class) all celebrated as I printed her official letter of recommendation to be sent off to "seal the deal". Mom took our picture for Brie's scrap book and I was reminded that DUH - this was my photo opportunity for the day! So here's Brie, the animal loving soon to be frozen college student, with me, the proud teacher. God speed Brie, God speed.
I wonder who will be the first of this AVID class to get a college acceptance letter? I wonder who will still be waiting for answers at next year's AVID Senior Farewell? I wonder how many of you will make all of our lives harder because you procrastinate this monumental action? So here's a question for you... What have you done today to make sure you have a college answer before the end of April?
