The Reptile Show at the Timonium Fairgrounds. Can we talk about the chimerical subgroup of humans that think reptiles are cool? It was a strange afternoon...
But I was reminded first hand of a powerful SAT word today: PHOBIA. And if you are in the know a phobia just isn't a fear - it is an irrational fear. And that is exactly what I felt when I saw the display of live spiders ... or should I say TARANTULAS. I couldn't get close. My heart started racing. I got goosebumps up my arms. All because I was looking at the hairy spider in the enclosed container. I had no problem touching a snake. No problem with the freezer full of dead rats and mice. But the spiders? Wow. That was an innate and irrational reaction that I don't know how to explain. What makes one fearful of something? My sister has a phobia of heights. She didn't know it until she was at the top of a building on a field trip with my nephew. Her body just simply reacted without warning. Have you ever had a physiological reaction to a phobia? Comment with a story about your phobia :)
