Project 365: Day #2.16 - Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Today was library day for Cody.  Most kids bring home fiction or manga books.  Not my kid.  Today he brought home:  So You Want to be President?  and a book about the state of Virginia.

The funny thing is we have the book So You Want to be President? at home and we took turns reading it out loud just the other night.  He has favorite pages and turns back to them often.  His number #1 page explains the link between being president and being a soldier.  He likes knowing that soldiers usually make good Presidenst.  :) ... The book on Virginia is what cracks me up.  It is like reading a text book but he LOVES it.  Tonight I learned that General Robert E. Lee and his wife are buried in a crypt under the chapel at the Washington and Lee University.  I also learned that his horse Traveler is also buried on the grounds of the campus.  The page about Booker T. Washington was interesting ... especially his connections with HBCU's.  He was one of the first to attend Hampton and he was an instructor at Tuskegee University. It makes me want to make some of these universities a part of our next Spring Break College Tour.
