Tonight was another powerful class that demonstrated the power of writing and the power of collaboration. Today we practiced an interactive journal approach to Student Services and then we broke out into groups and had to present on the chapter we were given from Fullen's book: Leadership and Sustainability. Sarah and I had Chapter 4 that dealt with The New Work of Leaders and it talked about the need to change people's language in order to move from regressive interactions to progressive interactions. There were 7 ways to change one's language to promote progression. One of the most powerful for me was the transformation from complaining to commitment. But just exactly HOW does one go about getting people to stop complaining and simply commit to the common goal. n the end we need to foster leadership so that sustainability will come from more people being empowered and motivated to keep the interactions progressive rather than regressive.
Thanks to the Maryland Writing Project, this meaningful year long activity is going to help my AVID seniors remember not just bits and pieces of their senior year, but bits and pieces of each DAY of their senior year. Here you will find my photos and thoughts for the next 365 days. I am certain this will be one of the most rewarding projects my students and I do. First a click of the camera, then the happy clicking of my keyboard. Let the journey begin...
