Project 365: Day 35 - Wed, June 9th, 2010

A Day in the Life of a Principal:

So tonight in my Organization and Administration of Schools course, my visual learner side was stimulated to new levels! We were asked to make a list of all the things we think a principal does in a day. We went around the rooming sharing one idea from our "A Day in the Life of My Principal" until our personal list was depleted. Two scribes were at the board recording our answers. The list spanned 4 boards. Just making the list was a thought-provoking activity in and of itself. BUT the visual candy came when we were asked to create categories that would cover all the items listed. Photo 2 shows the list of categories. It starts with Administrative duties and continues with Community Outreach, etc. Sue then color coded each of the categories and gave us each corresponding post-it notes. Tess and I had pink - we had to place a pink post-it note next to any activity we felt fit in the category of Accountability to the Organization. So she thought about North Avenue and I thought about Greenwood. The pink post-its were soon speckled around the boards. It was interesting to see that many things a principal does in a day falls into several categories - one activity can cause a ripple effect. This was a great way to help sort information. Knowledge management with a color twist - right up my learner's lane!
