Project 365: Day 22 - Thurs, May 27th, 2010

Why is James so funny?

Why are my freshmen more mature than my 11th graders?

Why is it so hard to tell kids what they already know: "You haven't done your part - you are out of AVID."

Epilogue: Cody visited Dr. Israel today. He got a shot in the arm and I got a shot in my ego. It felt so good to hear someone validate my role as a mom. The entire staff spoke to Cody - used his name - made him feel valued and important. He was treated like a client and not necessarily like a child. He was not invisible and he enjoyed the attention. Dr. Israel talked to Cody about the importance of always being honest and not keeping secrets. He was deeply interested in my work and asked really good questions...come to find out his son is a sophomore at Franklin High. I am so grateful that Cody will be visiting this man every year for the rest of his childhood.
