Project 365: Day 159 - Mon. October 19th, 2009

I said Good-bye to Mom and Grams and HELLO to stress....

Back to Reality!

Why does it feel so stressful to take a weekend to yourself? Katie and I both felt overwhelmed and STRESSED today because we didn't spend our weekends working! What is wrong with that picture?!? Why does this job consume our lives? It is a blessing to have a career that is my passion but COME ON! Why do I feel the need to work 24-7? Why does being good at my job mean that I can't take a weekend to myself without stress and GUILT?

  2. A quick disclaimer: I'm not judging you or saying that what I write is indeed the case - I'm just offering a few thoughts. Take 'em for what they're worth.

Working so much could be nothing more than extreme dedication and devotion to the job. The guilt and stress felt when attempting to relax could be the body and mind attempting to replace the constant stimuli that are present when working.

It's also possible that the 24/7 work, along with the high degree of control it gives over the job, is a subconscious attempt to compensate for a lack or loss of control in other areas. In that case, the guilt and stress when relaxing could possibly be a manifestation of subconscious fear regarding the loss of control.

Today's irrelevant question: Why do they call it bacon when it's fried?
