One of the things I love most about Cody's 2nd grade class this year is that he has library on Friday. This means that we get new books to read over the weekend. Tonight we read The Star-Spangled Banner" and it is moments like this that I am so grateful for this blog. Because now I will get to remember this moment long after it has been replaced with many more heart warming Cody stories....
During our nightly story time, we read one of the new library books "Star Spangled Banner" about Fort McHenry and Francis Scott Key and how the song was written. When we finished Cody said, "Mama, will you sing it? Look here are the words." So I sang it and when I was done, I looked at Cody and he had tears slipping down his cheeks.
"Cody honey, what's wrong?"
"Oh Mama, I just feel so sad and proud for those soldiers who gave up their lives for us so that we could have freedom. Will you sing it again?"
"Will you sing it with me?" ...
So we both sang our National Anthem with pride in our hearts, lumps in our throats, and tears in our eyes.
