Project 365: Day 58 - Tues. July 14th, 2009

The Breakfast Club:
"Ya, know Ms. Grossa', I was just telling someone that this class reminds me of that movie, The Breakfast Club. In fact, I feel like I'm starring in it. I mean we are all thrown in here together and we start making judgements day one. But because of the things you make us do, I was able to kick it with people I wouldn't even look at twice in regular school." And with that quote, Ja'chole (far left) gave me chills and a renewed sense of purpose. So here is a picture of the group that helped Ja'Chole see past her own short-sighted opinions, thoughts and judgements. Once again, I am reminded that sometimes I am not here to teach them what a dangling participle is; I am here to help them navigate the often stormy waters of identity.

  1. Thanks for your comments yesterday...it was a nice pick me up :) You know, now that you said that about our kids at NT, it makes me wonder if we can't try to figure out what it is that's the problem. How are we not meeting their needs? How do we reach them and get them to care? It's even the good kids sometimes that have trouble staying focused at NT. Like you said...at summer school, you've done better than with kids at our own school. Is our message getting worn out with them? Are they starting to tune some of us out because they've heard it too many times???
