Project 365: Day 38 - Wed. June 24th, 2009

Presenting "Vocabulary Strategies" at the Summer Curriculum Writer's Workshop:

9:00 am - Today was a busy day ... I was asked to present at the Summer Curriculum Writer's workshop and was really nervous. The audience was a bunch of highly qualified teachers and other BCPS employees who were not so happy about sitting in meetings all day. I wanted to give them something meaningful and engaging ... I'm grateful that the feedback we got proved my goal was met. It was fun to look out and see many familiar faces. After 16 years in the county I have certainly worked with many people. I ran into friends from my World Language days, the opening of New Town days, Teacher of the Year days, and Saturday School days. I was touched when a woman came up to me at the end, said she had been teaching over 32 years and that my vocabulary presentation taught her something new, fun and useful. I have to give the same presentation tomorrow. Thanks to her kind words, I have the confidence to keep what I did and just add to it since I am going to be given more time. Another woman said she would pay good money to have her son in my class.

3:00 - I rushed home to cook dinner, clean my house and finish unpacking before my Mom and Grandma arrived. They have been in Michigan visiting family and friends for two weeks and are ending their trip with time in MD. Tomorrow we will all head to PA to visit my cousin Laurie, her husband Dave, and their new daughter Lea. Cody has been counting the minutes until they arrive.
10:00 pm - Mom and Grams (and Smoochie) peel themselves out of the car. They made it safe and sound and are looking forward to a little time with Cody while I go back to the workshop to present in the morning. Then it's off to PA for some fun at Hershey and Valley Forge. I haven't seen my cousin Laurie in years...
